One of the unique destinations in Singapore is Dempsey Hill. If you have not known about it, simply look up local tours once you are in the city. I heard about this amazing place through my friend who owns a Limousine Service who has traveled here many times. He continues to come back year after year and thanks to him I now enjoy this place as well.
History of Dempsey Hill
This area has a rich history. I learned in my walking trails tour that it was a nutmeg plantation site in the 1850s. It is a hilly region; the principal hill here is Mount Harriet. It had been a military camp known as Tanglin Barracks. Since then the area has undergone several transformations. It is maintained as a heritage site with much of its rustic charms retained.
Retail and Dining Destinations
Today this area acts as a tranquil getaway place that has several shopping, entertainment, and dining spots. Among the eateries here I stopped by COMO Dempsey. This was an area to explore several innovative places to dine as well as concept stores.
I also passed Candlebut which is known to be a Peranakan restaurant, the first to gain a Michelin star rating. There is also the Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar which has equal fame and so is COMO Cuisine which is of Timothy de Souza.
Other popular places here are popular for nightlife is The Green Door, a garden bar, Red Dot Brewhouse which offers beers and steaks as well as Samy’s Curry or Long Beach Seafood restaurant.
Activities for Families
Even though I came here with friends, if you are with family you can engage your kids in creative programs such as chocolate making workshop or pottery classes at Impressions Art Studio. If you are traveling with pets you can check them in at Wagington Luxury Pet Hotel.
I enjoyed a weekend here and you will as well, especially if you love to explore different eateries and retail destinations amidst tranquil settings.
